We are pleased to present the
5th edition of the Sommelier Guide to Restaurants in America. Those familiar
with previous editions will note several significant changes in this one.
For one, my name is included in the title, due to my increased involvement
in the guide’s contents and production, including my interview with wine
pairing specialist, Evan Goldstein.
Second, we have expanded the focus of articles by our esteemed authors, each
a Master Sommelier. The articles now are geared to other wine professionals,
sharing some “insider secrets,” and making interesting reading.
Third, the profiles of the individual sommeliers and wine professionals
included here are simply more interesting than from years past, because we
have refined the types of questions asked of each. As a result, I think you
receive a better feeling for the sommeliers profiled, and for the wine
programs they direct.
Lastly, this fifth edition of the guide contains more restaurants, some
3,200 of them, than before. These are restaurants known for the caliber of
their wine programs due to the efforts and dedication of in-house wine
specialists or sommeliers.
I hope you will use this guide to better acquaint yourself with these
featured sommeliers and with the restaurants where they display the tasteful
achievements of their profession.
My thanks to Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards and Winery for sponsoring and
underwriting this educational and career-validating guide. |
